We’re off to Antarctica on a polar gay cruise. Because this was the place that inspired the company, it’s a sentimental journey for us. We begin in bustling Buenos Aires, then take a charter flight to Ushuaia, where we board the Ultramarine. We’ll cross the notorious Drake Passage and make our way to the South Shetland Islands and the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. This once-in-a-lifetime Antarctica expedition will have you enjoying sub-zero safaris, otherworldly hikes, whale watching, and—if you’re brave enough—a Polar Plunge. Though we join a larger expedition aboard the Ultramarine, we’ve arranged exclusive excursions and events for you.
This tour begins in Buenos Aires. For those looking to explore Argentina’s vibrant capital city, we invite you to arrive a day or two early and join our Buenos Aires Pre-Tour Extension.
PLEASE NOTE: This tour has special booking conditions. Please click here for more details.
Welcome, early arrivals! We’ll kick things off at 7PM with a 3-course dinner and tango show at El Viejo Almacén, colloquially known as a tangueria. The fiery performance is sure to be a tantalizing backdrop for our exquisite meal, allowing us to get to know each other in advance of tomorrow’s city tour. The show wraps up at midnight, at which point we’ll return to the hotel.
PLEASE NOTE: This day of the itinerary is part of the Buenos Aires Pre-Tour Extension, and is not included in the tour price. The main tour itinerary begins at 6PM on Day 1.
Hola! Welcome to beautiful Buenos Aires, Argentina, a massive, vibrant city with a turbulent past.
If you’re joining our Pre-Tour Extension:
Beginning at 10AM, we’ll sashay over to Plaza de Mayo and bustling San Telmo Mercado to learn about the LGBTQ+ history and activism of the 1980s before an included lunch at La Brigada restaurant nearby. This afternoon, we’ll explore La Boca, the immigrant district transformed by a gay painter into a colorful display of neighborhood pride, then visit the National Congress. Our tour finishes up at the Recoleta Cemetery at the mausoleum of international icon Evita Perón, the former first lady of Argentina. A more detailed version of this day can be found here.
If you’re NOT joining our Pre-Tour Extension:
Feel free to explore a little on your own before our 6PM welcome meeting. After everyone has gotten acquainted, we’ll stroll over to one of the romantic city’s best local haunts for our official Welcome Dinner.
PLEASE NOTE: The main tour begins at 6PM on this day. The Buenos Aires Pre-Tour Extension is not included in the tour price, and can be added on to your booking by contacting one of our team members.
After an early breakfast at the hotel, we’ll transfer to the airport and board a charter flight to Ushuaia, Argentina. Upon arrival we’ll have some free time to explore this quaint port town before making our way to the pier. Late this afternoon we’ll board the Ultramarine and officially begin our Antarctica Expedition. After we pass through the historic Beagle Channel, which transects the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, we’ll bid farewell to land for a couple of days.
PLEASE NOTE: Unlike our typical offerings, an expedition cruise is not only more exciting, but also less predictable. We must factor in ever-changing sea, ice, wildlife and weather conditions in a remote part of the world. Therefore, the itinerary is less specific than usual. Still, the days will be full of adventure.
Prepare for rough water, but hope for smooth sailing: the notorious Drake Passage is unpredictable, but you’re in good hands with our professional expedition team. Spend this time getting to know fellow shipmates, attending wildlife and nature briefings, and find out what lies ahead. For more information on sea sickness review the important information page here.
Sadly, this morning we disembark however before leaving Ushuaia we’ll have a short bus tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park with some quick photo stops. We’ll then transfer to the airport for our charter flight to Buenos Aires, landing at Ministro Pistarini International Airport (also known as Ezeiza International Airport, EZE) at 5PM.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are flying home today, do not book your international departure any earlier than 9PM, and make sure to book your flight out of the international airport (airport code EZE).
Awesome and once in a lifetime experience. Great team and good boat. Very happy I did it.
What better way to go to the bottom of the world than with a great bunch of guys who at least have one thing in common! I loved touching down in Ushuaia and then sailing off to the unknown. Completely perfect itinerary.
