If sailing through dramatic fjords and exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Greenland isn’t enough adventure for you, there are a number of thrilling optional excursions you can add on to our Greenland West Coast Gay Cruise

Early pre-booking is recommended for all optional excursions as spaces fill quickly. Excursions are weather-dependent. If there’s only one day when the excursions can take place, the timing may change and they may overlap, so please book no more than one excursion per person (with the exception of the Tundra to Table experience, which takes place in the evening).

Heli Landing

$395 USD per person (once during voyage)

Our twin-engine helicopters will transfer you to the start of the most scenic hiking routes Greenland has to offer, and then pick you up at the endpoint of the route. Each heli-hiking departure will be tailored to your personal needs and level of interest. You may choose to join one of our fast walking groups who will go for exploration and distance, one of our medium hiking routes where there will be plenty of time to stop for photography and reflection, or explore at a slower pace with ample time to enjoy the scenery and immerse yourself in your surroundings.

Sea Kayaking

$695 USD per person (multiple times during voyage)

The Sea Kayaking program is a great way to explore your surroundings intimately. A small group of kayakers will plan to go out multiple times per voyage as an alternative to shore landings or Zodiac cruises. The number of opportunities to kayak is weather dependent and will be conducted only during calm conditions. Prior kayaking experience is required, and you must be able to do a wet exit to participate. Beginners interested in kayaking should consider participating in the Paddling Excursion.

Paddling

$195 USD per person (once during voyage)

If you would like to try something a bit less demanding than Sea Kayaking, you’re the perfect candidate to sign up for a one-time paddle on our stable sit-on-top kayaks—perfect for anyone with minimal or no kayaking experience. Small groups of passengers will be taken out on a calm day with expert guides always present to provide instruction and help you connect with the arctic sea.

Mountain Biking

$195 USD per person (once per voyage)

Feeling like a more active adventure? Our team has worked with local partners to identify world-class mountain biking routes through the stunning scenery of Greenland. Our twin-engine helicopters will deploy you into the best terrain to start your adventure and be there to pick you up at the end of your route so you are always covering new terrain along the way.

Tundra to Table: Inuit Culinary Experience

$125 USD per person (provided on the ship once per voyage)

The Tundra to Table experience offers a one-of-a-kind adventure into the culinary traditions of the Inuit in Greenland and Nunavut. Guests who participate in this on-ship activity will learn about local Inuit culture and culinary traditions while enjoying dishes from Arctic regions prepared by Inuit chefs.

At the heart of this experience that takes place in Ultramarine’s main restaurant, Balena, is the purity of the ingredients, such as seafood caught fresh from the Arctic waters, and free-roaming game that consume naturally organic grass and vegetation. Dishes will vary by trip but may include: beer-braised muskox served with Greenlandic mashed potatoes, mushroom sauce and berry jam; South Greenlandic lamb served with pommes Anna (layers of sliced potatoes), sweet turnip ragu, pickled angelica and wild gravy; honey-glazed ptarmigan served with turnip purée; and pickled halibut served with lumpfish dip and bread.

Participants will have a choice between meat or fish, and between 2 of 4 courses. The dinner will feature regional tableware and include cultural storytelling.

These optional excursions are available on our Greenland West Coast Gay Cruise, departing July 2023.
