The lions may epitomize a safari, but it’s the luxurious accommodations and glamping at Kenya’s gay-welcoming hotels that’ll make or break it. Read on for a preview of the sensational stays we’ll enjoy on our Kenya: Safaris and Savannahsย tour.

Emara Ole Sereni, Nairobi/Limuru

Jambo! To rest your travel-weary feet, we’ve booked a modern hotel that is a short drive from the airport and features expansive views of Nairobi National Park. The modern amenities include air conditioning, a swimming pool, a fitness centre and fine dining at the hotel restaurant and Sky Lounge.

The terrace is particularly impressive and features oodles of space to stretch out and get acclimated. We suggest ordering a cool beverage and indulging in an even cooler dip.

Satao Elerai Camp, Amboseli National Park

Start each day sipping your morning brew on a private verandah as the sun creeps out from behind Mount Kilimanjaro. These exquisite luxury tents will immerse you in your African surroundings, so much so that you may awake to the trumpeting of nearby elephants! All tents are enclosed to keep out critters, have ensuite bathrooms and feature private terraces with day beds.

Watch the camp’s promotional video below for a clearer picture of what sets this encampment apart.

Serena Camp, Lake Elmenteita

We stop at Lake Elmenteita to break up the journey and soak up the views of the Great Rift Valley. The lake is home to over 400 bird species and grazing zebra, gazelle and warthog. Although we are just here for one night, guests should have time to sip a cocktail by the pool while taking in the sunset.

The Cliff, Nakuru National Park

The region’s highlight is Lake Nakuru, a shallow wetland that attracts Africa’s largest population of flamingos. Our third savannah slumber will be a stone’s throw from this oasis and sits right on a clifftop, providing excellent views of the region. The hotel is smartly styled with a modern twist. Our group will undoubtedly flock to the exceptional on-site restaurant/bar for a daily nightcap.

Mara Crossings, Masai Mara National Reserve

Last but far from least is a luxury safari camp on the banks of the famous Mara River. The astounding accommodations feature comfortable bedding, fresh linens, and welcomed touches like steaming showers after a day spent out on the plains. We’ll also enjoy unforgettable dinners here, tasting local offerings perfectly prepared by the acclaimed kitchen team.
