ITINERARY

Day 1 Kigali

Muraho!ย As an extension to our Tanzania safari, our day will begin with a flight from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Kigali. Upon arrival we’ll be welcomed by our local representative, fast-tracked through immigration formalities, and transferred to our hotel for check-in. Depending on flight schedules we’ll have a brief moment to relax before our official Welcome Dinner at our hotel.

Please note: Todayโ€™s flight is not included in the cost of the 2025 departure.

Day 2 Kigali / Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast weโ€™ll check out of the hotel and commence our tour of Kigali, Rwandaโ€™s capital. This will include a somber visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the final resting place of 250,000 people who perished in this tragic 1994 event. After lunch weโ€™ll embark on a scenic three-hour drive through terraced hillsides to Volcanoes National park. Dinner awaits after check-in.

Please note: at the time of publishing local authorities require a face mask while visiting the gorillas and golden monkeys.ย 

Day 3 Volcanoes National Park

Today is devoted to the stars of this tour. Weโ€™ll track Rwandaโ€™s famous mountain gorillas through the forested slopes of the Virungas. Beware the gorillas are sometimes elusive, so it could take anywhere from two up to six or more hours to track them down. We may spend up to an hour with these great apes before returning to the base for lunch. After returning to the lodge the rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy before our final dinner.

Please note: due to the nature of the trekking permits, 8 people are assigned to each gorilla family. Our Out Adventures group will likely be split up and hiking with other guests.

Days 4 Volcanoes National Park / Kigali

Rise and shine for an early breakfast. This morning weโ€™ve arranged an additional trek to seek out Rwandaโ€™s endangered golden monkeys, also known as Blue Monkeys. There are only 5,000 believed to remain in the world, and they are easily differentiated by the bright orange fur spread out over their bodies. It can take up to four hours of trekking to track down these elusive animals. After lunch weโ€™ll check out of the lodge then drive past coffee, banana and tea plantations en route back to Kigali. From here there will be a group transfer to the airport for your return flight home.

The Rwanda Gorilla Trek was easily one of the most beautiful, spectacular, exceptional moments in my life! To be so close to these magnificent creatures was incomprehensible and life-changing. The Golden Monkeys were phenomenal as well. This is a must-do adventure!

5-Star Hotel: Beautifully decorated and spacious rooms complete with extras such a bathrobe and slippers, and often including an evening turndown service. Expect premium amenities such as a fitness centre, multiple pools and restaurants, a sauna and/or spa. Customer service is exceptional, always includes a concierge service, and may include butler service.

3-Star Hotels: Clean and comfortable rooms along with basic amenities such as a simple restaurant/breakfast area. Customer service is good, but offers no frills.

Hiking is a major component of this tour, and the gorilla trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the location of the gorilla family allocated and the speed and direction at which the gorillas are moving. Steep and sometimes slippery trails can make the trek challenging, along with altitudes ranging from from 2,500 to 3,350 meters (8,200 to 11,000 feet). Suitable for a good fitness level.
