From the Great Wall in the east to the great heights of Tibet, China is a proud nation that seamlessly blends dynasties of history with cutting-edge, futuristic vibes. For our cultural tour China: Highlights & Tibet, weโve chosen several of Chinaโs gay-welcoming hotels that we adore. Read on to see what snazzy digs youโll be checking in to.
New World Hotel, Beijing
Nestled in the heart of Beijing, our first hotel features a prime location with easy access to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and popular museums. The building’s modern design gives it a grandiose feel, which is quite fitting for this capital city.

Each elegantly designed room is adorned with contemporary furnishings that emphasize minimalism without cutting back on comfort.

Guests can enjoy a range of amenities, including a stylish bar and an upscale restaurant serving authentic cuisine.

Sofitel Renmin Square, Xiโan
Located in the heart of the city, this gay-welcoming hotel is an excellent base for exploring Xi’an’s fascinating history. With its attentive service and inviting atmosphere, Sofitel Xiโan Renmin Square is a 5-star hotel that exemplifies the marriage of luxe comfort and cultural heritage.

Guest rooms are peacefully designed with clean lines, a calming palette, and plenty of room to move about.

The hotelโs resort-style pool is a must-see, and the perfect spot for getting off your feet after a full day of exploring the city! If you’re keen for an evening tea or libation, head to the lobby, where a full bar and a posh seating area await.

The St. Regis Resort, Lhasa
We canโt stop raving about our favorite resort in Lhasa, the fabulous St. Regis! Though it may appear traditional on the outside, itโs a modern-day darling on the inside.

Guest rooms are essentially the size of suites, with walls covered in traditional art. On top of the plush bed, youโll find a seating area, a desk, a closet, and a spacious ensuite with a soaker tub.

Letโs talk amenities! The lobby is warm and welcoming, and the property includes a meticulously decorated restaurant with a breezy terrace, a swanky bar, and a massage suite.

Tibet Hotel, Chengdu
As we readjust from the high Tibetan elevation, weโll check into (ironically) the Tibet Hotel. Misleading name aside, we love this property! Located smack dab in the middle of it all, itโs the Chengdu hotel we always recommend.

Step inside and youโll immediately be hit with a feeling of tranquility. For not being in Tibet, this hotel feels an awful lot like being in Tibet. Even the lobby and the restaurant exude a serene, inviting vibe.

The guest rooms are akin to nirvana and designed to align your chakras.

Grand Central Hotel, Shanghai
The final hotel on our China tour is a doozie! Prepare to have your socks knocked off because weโre checking into the Grand Central Hotel, one of the most renowned stays in the entire city.

If you look up the definition of โritzy,โ youโll likely find a photo of this hotelโs lobby. With soaring ceilings and plush seating, itโs the perfect spot to relax with a beverage and do some people-watching. If you’re feeling a bit peckish, you’re in luck! This space doubles as the restaurant, with seating throughout the cavernous area.

The guest rooms were designed with a touch of glamour and come with top-tier amenities.

Be sure to check out the pool, where you can relax with a quick dip or indulge in a bit of exercise by swimming some laps. Speaking of exercise, there’s also a spacious and well-appointed gym!

China’s gay-welcoming hotels are the cherry on top of our fabulous cultural tour.
